“It needed to be sophisticated — the kind of place where you wouldn’t mind having a few pals over for a glass of wine,” says Nicole on the design. To achieve that, a neutral palette was enhanced with warmer tones and textures.

A reading nook set off to the side features two nesting tables and a mid century-style lamp. subtle pops of color are brought in with the throw pillows.

A tribal-style mask on the wall was hung to reflect Lucy’s desire for a space representative of multiple cultures.

Even Lucy seems to be enjoying the play tent placed between a pair of windows and sofas.

Plush toys are housed in a striped basket, keeping things organized without compromising style.

A patterned wallpaper is the perfect backdrop to the colorful toys displayed on clean-lined shelves, which evidently steal the show.

Open bins keep toys within easy reach, while low shelves holding paint and chalk flank either side of a kraft paper station, encouraging craft time.

Some of Rockwell’s artwork is hung with colorful clothespins on triangle garlands, adding a personal touch.

The colors of the Moroccan baskets hung above the fireplace complement the rest of this mantel’s decor.
